For a corporate enterprise seeking to organize and automate conference room management, we developed an on-premise room booking ecosystem. The platform replaced outdated Lotus Notes legacy software.
Business Challenge and Project Objective
In large office buildings, meeting room reservations frequently trigger scheduling conflicts. The client's previous system based on Lotus Notes was cumbersome, and staff had no way to verify room status directly outside meeting rooms. The goal was to install interactive tablet displays outside room entrances synchronized in real time with enterprise calendars.
Solution – Android Kiosk App and Central Management Panel
Commoditech engineered a custom software suite consisting of an Android tablet interface and a centralized administrative dashboard:
- Android Tablet Client – runs in secure kiosk mode (locked OS). Displays room status (green – available, red – occupied), current meeting countdown, and upcoming reservations. Allows instant meeting checkout or extension directly from the touchscreen.
- Central Administrator Panel – manages the entire hardware fleet remotely: provisioning new tablets, mapping rooms, monitoring battery health, executing remote reboots, and rolling out UI updates.
- Multi-Language Support – localized user interface for international corporate settings.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can the system integrate with Microsoft Outlook or Google Calendar?
Yes. While initially implemented for Lotus Notes, the flexible API architecture connects seamlessly with Microsoft Exchange/Outlook, Google Workspace, and other corporate scheduling systems.
How are tablets protected against tampering by unauthorized users?
The application operates in dedicated Single App Kiosk Mode, restricting access strictly to the booking interface. Exiting the app or modifying device configuration requires administrator credentials.
